The papers application

For those of you who've needed to invoice your paper deliveries (huh? What not ALL of you??!!) here's an application that runs on MS Excel 2003.  Written for my friend, Hamid, at one of our local stores it's proving to be a useful little tool.

It's available from the downloads pages.

I've spent months, on and off, writing the code for this and chatting with Hamid and his brother to get it right.  I'm really pleased to be able to offer it around as I think it's a snazzy little tool that, I was amazed to find, seems to have nothing to compare to it on the web.

I'm hoping to re-program it, in time, on Visual Basic so that it'll stand alone without having to run on MS Excel.

Andy carps about the Nintendo WII...

It's all becoming a tad silly... I was reading the RSS newsfeed at lunchtime.  Wow! How exciting (excuse the drooling sarcasm)...on top of the wonderful (vomits heavily) Nintendo WII we now have phones that will allow you to play virtual bowling games by swinging said phone through the air...as if it weren't bad enough trying to avoid people wandering in any direction BUT a straight line whilst they talk on their mobiles, trying to reach for a loaf of bread as their other half decides (via said mobile) which flavour, colour, size and manufacturer is required.

Apparently TV's that will allow you to clap, slap or gesture in order to change the channel are also on the way.  The height of laziness methinks.  For goodness sake we've changed from walking across the room and pushing a button to being able to do it via the remote control.  Now we can just waggle our fingers.  Now THAT's going to fuel a few family feuds...as there's no remote...well you can guess the rest.  I wonder how many times the channel would change if there's an ensuing domestic in the front room?

I say all this with tongue in cheek - ready, of course, to ridicule the senseless although I am sure somebody will come up with a justification for what seems to me to be a total waste of time and resources and, in fact, is just another enterprise in order to encourage us to part with our money.  Yet how can I knock the enterprising mind that makes a living through convincing us that we need these wonderful time and labour saving gizmos?!

Coming back to the WII; I am, as you can gather, not a fan.  I'm just not convinced that running a hurdle race with the Mario Brothers by waving extremities across your living room comes into my definition of "fun".  Mind you Sharon Stone played virtual tennis back in the '80's in Total Recall and it's one of my favourite films.  Maybe I should shut my face like now?!

Just one thing though...a couple of people at work have shoulder injuries.  Both of them through playing games on the WII.  How's that for taking it to a new level - now we can not only play without having to step outside the door - we can get injured as well.

I'm just waiting for the virtual physiotherapist!
