What does it mean to live fully in the present moment? It means that our awareness is completely centred on the here & now. We’re not worrying about the future or thinking about the past. When we live in the present, we’re living where life is happening. The past & future are illusions, they don’t exist. As the saying goes “tomorrow never comes”. Tomorrow is only a concept, waiting to come around the corner, but around that corner are shadows, never to have light shed on them, because time is always now.
The worst part about living in the past or the future is that we’re giving up our personal power. If we’re not living now, we’re giving up our life; surrendering our power. If there are changes to be made in life, it’s best to do it now. We can’t do anything about the past, it’s gone. If we’re worrying about the future, we’re living somewhere that doesn’t exist. It hasn’t happened yet. If we want changes, the only place todo that is in the present. First we need to accept life as it is; when it comes down to it our mind is the only thing keeping us from living in the present.
So how do we live in the present?
The hardest thing to do when living in the moment is to not have the urge to try to quiet our mind. When we try to quiet the mind, we just disturb it even more. Instead, simply witness thoughts as if they are pure sound. Don’t try to judge the thoughts, there are no good or bad ones. Try to treat them as if they were just noise.
Often we identify ourselves with our thoughts & actually believe we’re the dialogue going on inside our mind. We are much more than just our thoughts, we are the force that moves through our mind, spirit & body. Knowing this helps us overcome our fear of quietness & silence, we can have peace knowing that when our minds are quiet, we’re not losing touch with ourselves.
Practice conscious breathing to bring the mind back to the present. Focus on breathing & notice it’s just something that we do & that ‘does us’. When we focus on our breath, we come back into relationship with reality, because like breath, reality is also something we do & that ‘does us’. It’s co-creative.
Meditation can help us bring our attention back to the present & clear our mind. Use this affirmation while meditating ‘I lovingly release myself from the past & allow myself to live in the present.’
Mindfulness plays an important part. Practicing mindfulness means we practice awareness in all our actions. Whether we’re washing dishes or tying our shoes, our mind is focused on whatever we’re doing. We’re not thinking about the bills that need paying, or the phone call we have to make when we get to the office. We’re very simply living in the moment.
Crystals are wonderful for supporting living in the present; my favourites are:
Black Onyx – a grounding stone, valuable in difficult or confusing times in our lives. Extremely helpful to support ” letting go” or releasing past attachments to people, places & things.
Rutilated Quartz or Smokey Quartz
Increases recall of dreams & intensifies channeling abilities, bringing spiritual balance & the integration of past lives & future into the present moment. A great Crystal for channeling & increasing awareness, grounding & centering, it releases blocks & negativity on all levels. Use it to see & accept the joys in life, freeing us from illusion
Muscovite will help us to live in the present & as we let go of the past, it’s possible for the future to unfold as it was meant to.
Crystal Blessings
